Kurt Merriweather is Founder and Principal, Cedar Fork Partners, a consultancy designed to help early stage companies achieve product-market fit and execute go-to-market strategies. After mentoring several startups. he saw a need to help emerging companies find the right market opportunities for their products and key assets, develop go-to-market strategies and execute business development and marketing plans. Over the past several years, Merriweather has incubated businesses in a range of vertical markets from education to real estate that have received over $5M in funding. Throughout his career, Merriweather has been sought after to develop new market opportunities, create business and product launch strategies and communicate plans to stakeholders at all levels in the organization, including board members and investors. He is passionate about bringing these capabilities to emerging companies and helping them succeed.
Prior to founding Cedar Fork Partners, Kurt was Senior Vice President and General Manager, Industry Services, ReverbNation. He was responsible for developing relationships with record labels, music publishers, radio stations and brands to connect independent music artists to opportunity. Merriweather led sales, business development, product development and operations activities to syndicate and distribute music created by ReverbNation's 3.5MM artist community.
Before joining ReverbNation, Merriweather was Director, Strategy and Emerging Business Development, Discovery Communications, Inc. (DCI). Merriweather was a founding member of Discovery’s Emerging Business Group (EBG). Discovery’s EBG was part think tank, part product and partnership development group with the objective of delighting Discovery audiences across platforms (video, mobile, social media). Merriweather leads efforts to identify and incubate new business opportunities that leverage new audiences, new products and new business models. Prior to joining the Emerging Business team, Merriweather led strategy and commercial partnerships across Discovery’s online, social media and mobile properties. He was instrumental in sourcing and closing the acquisition of Revision3 and the Company’s investment in Lumosity. Merriweather also nurtured partnerships to launch Social TV experiences and grow audiences for Discovery’s web properties. Merriweather developed business plans to successfully launch Discovery News and TLC Cooking web properties, adding millions of unique visitors to Discovery's digital footprint.
Before joining Discovery, Merriweather was Business Director for AOL Music Now and was responsible for AOL’s premium music business operations. He was also instrumental in defining AOL’s video search strategy. Merriweather has held a variety of product marketing and product management positions at Silicon Graphics, Digital Island and Cable & Wireless. Merriweather began his career as a systems analyst at Procter & Gamble.
Merriweather received his MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University.
